Fall Pet Wellness: Immune Support, Seasonal Foods & Cozy Evenings

Autumn is here!

As the air gets crisp and the days grow shorter, our pets and the humans who adore them often slow down and savor the cozy season. It’s the perfect time to focus on little habits that help them feel their best (and keep us feeling great, too), from enjoying cool-weather walks to making sure their immune health stays strong all year long. Think of it as building a gentle, everyday “shield” for your pet’s well-being, and yours too.

Wellness companion: Our 5 Defenders blend is like a daily mushroom multivitamin to help maintain your pet’s immune defenses through every season.

Brisk Walks, Clean Paws

Reduce your dog's risk of exposure to toxins that may irritate their skin by washing their paws after walks.

Cooler weather means brisk walks and fresh, crisp air that puts a pep in our pups’ step. Short-haired dogs may appreciate a light jacket on chilly mornings or evening strolls. If you’re walking near manicured lawns or gardens that may be treated with herbicides, it’s a good idea to wash your pup’s paws when you get home. This simple step helps reduce exposure to toxins that may irritate the skin or be ingested when licked; even overspray on sidewalks can be a concern.

For a gentle paw wash, try this recipe from Carrie Hyde, owner of The Spaw in Tustin, CA: ¼ cup Epsom salt, ¼ cup apple cider vinegar, 1 gallon of water, plus clean water to rinse. Pour enough into a bucket to cover your dog’s paw, use a cloth or sponge to work it between the pads & toes, rinse with clean water, dry well, and finish by massaging coconut oil into the paw pads to moisturize.

Nourishment from Nature

One of the sweetest ways to support wellness, for both our pets and us, is through food. Seasonal favorites like blueberries, blackberries, and pumpkin are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber that help keep the body strong. Adding plain pumpkin (freshly cooked or canned puree—never pie mix) to meals throughout the week provides fiber and vitamins A, C, and E, while fresh berries can be added to meals or enjoyed as snacks. These simple additions can go a long way in supporting overall vitality and helping maintain gut health, a foundational part of your pet’s immune function, digestion, and mood.

These nutrient-rich whole foods deliver natural support for digestion, immunity, and overall well-being. A simple, delicious way to nourish your pet, one ingredient at a time.

Mushroom match: Maitake, one of the mushrooms in our 5 Defenders blend, is rich in antioxidants that help the body cope with oxidative stress, making it a natural partner to nutrient-packed whole foods.

Shorter Days, Cozy Evenings

Relax, reconnect, and restore. Reishi sets the tone for cozy evenings and shared well-being.

As the days grow shorter, cozy evenings become the highlight of the season. Winding down with your pet can be as simple as adding a little warm bone broth to their dinner, offering a healthy chew, and settling in together for some quiet time. These small rituals create comfort and calm, reminding us to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Mushroom match: Reishi, often called the “mushroom of calm,” helps support relaxation, immune balance, and overall well-being, the perfect partner for those peaceful evenings with your cozy companion. Reishi is a featured ingredient in our Mushroom Relax Pet Chews.
