Real Mushrooms began as a bold response to a broken functional mushroom industry. Mislabeling, misinformation, and low-quality products had become the norm. When Skye Chilton learned that most of the functional mushroom products on the market contained no mushrooms at all and were full of grain and fillers, he set out to create something different, something better.

He partnered with his father, Jeff Chilton, a veteran mushroom expert and the founder of global organic mushroom extract supplier Nammex. After spending 20 years honing large-scale mushroom cultivation techniques, Jeff helped pioneer the functional mushroom market in the 1990s. He had worked tirelessly to form long-lasting relationships with organic mushroom growers since then, and those are some of the partnerships Real Mushrooms still uses today. Together, Skye and Jeff founded Real Mushrooms to help people understand and access high-quality, authentic mushroom products.

What started as a small, family-driven mission has grown into the most trusted mushroom brand among health-conscious individuals, health practitioners, and pet parents alike.

We called our company Real Mushrooms because that’s exactly what we sell. Our commitment is simple: we use only the actual mushroom (fruiting body), never grain, starches, or unnecessary fillers.

That distinction matters. Unlike many brands that blur the lines by calling mycelium fermented grain products “mushrooms,” we honor the true mushroom for what it is: the bioactive, nutrient-rich structure that delivers real benefits for your body and mind.

We extract and formulate our products to contain high concentrations of the active compounds in mushrooms, such as beta-glucans, that help modulate the immune system, among other benefits. Our product labels list the beta-glucan concentrations to reflect the levels of this important compound, so you can be assured of our product’s purity and effectiveness.

Authenticity Matters

Geo-authenticity in mushroom cultivation refers to the practice of growing mushrooms in the specific geographic regions where they naturally originate or have historically thrived. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, geo-authenticity, or dao di, is a concept suggesting that certain medicinal plants are of higher efficacy, potency, and quality when they are grown in their indigenous region.

We proudly cultivate all of our mushrooms in China. China is the traditional homeland and birthplace of mushroom cultivation, and has been growing them for more than 800 years. Functional mushrooms are of particular importance to Chinese culture, as they are rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine. That’s why all of our mushrooms are grown in small-scale organic farms under USDA organic conditions: we only want the purest, highest-quality ingredients, right from their traditional source.
